Orange Belgium will train civil engineering students at the Ecole Polytechnique in Brussels. Orange wants to prepare new generations of engineers for a job in the telecommunications sector.
The news was announced today at the BeCentral premises in Brussels, where Orange Belgium opened its Digital Center a year ago today. The aim of the project was to give young IT talents a better chance of finding their way in the job market. Orange is clearly having fun in the capital and is now starting a collaboration with the Ecole Polytechnique, where the telecom operator will receive an official chair.
As a result, Orange is more closely involved in the civil engineering training at the ULB. The telecom operator will host seminars and courses there, and will also open an on-campus laboratory that will provide funding for telecom equipment and research. Students can also redeem internships at Orange Belgium during their studies.
Dean Frédéric Robert is pleased about the cooperation. “Thanks to this multi-year partnership, we can offer future ULB civil engineers a learning environment that is state-of-the-art, both in terms of courses and theses and internships,” he said during the press conference.
attract talent
Connecting with the academic world can also be beneficial for Orange Belgium. The battle for talent can be felt in many industries. Orange now has a unique opportunity to prepare future generations for a job in the telecoms sector from the front row and engage them ahead of the competition.
As well as working with the ULB, Orange also has a partnership with Girleek, an organization dedicated to paving the way for women into the tech industry. Orange will co-finance the creation of two digital houses in Brussels and Antwerp. The telecom operator proudly announces that 41 percent of the participants in the digital center are female.
