During Russia’s sweeping aggression against Ukraine, the government’s computer emergency response team, CERT-UA, has recorded and manually processed more than 3,000 cyberattacks and cyber incidents, including 800, since the beginning of this year.

According to the Ukrinform correspondent, Volodymyr Kondrashov, spokesperson for the State Private Communications and Information Protection Service of Ukraine, announced this at the briefing.

According to him, the main targets of hacker attacks were critical infrastructure and government officials. More than a quarter of all recorded attacks are attempts by government agencies to infiltrate and destroy information systems of state and local authorities. In addition, the energy sector, security and defense field, telecommunications and commercial establishments are under the constant attention of Russian hackers.

“Since the beginning of this year, the CERT-UA government team has recorded and manually responded to more than 800 cyberattacks and cyber incidents. And since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, we have manually examined more than 3,000 such attacks,” he said.

According to him, most of the Russian hackers are so-called “hackers in uniform”, either directly members of the Russian military or people belonging to groups under the full control of the special services of the attacking state.

The representative of the State Special Forces said that during the 16 months of the war, Russia’s tactics of cyber attacks on Ukraine have changed and always corresponded to the general goals of the Russian army.

“At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we recorded the activity of enemy hackers to influence operations and destroy critical IT infrastructure. Now the emphasis has shifted to espionage and data theft. “Russia is attacking everything it can reach,” Kondrashov said.

Among the risks present, he named so-called “cyberattacks through the supply chain”, that is, infiltration into the network of service providers and partners, not systems of direct interest.

“Therefore, the enemy’s attention is focused on telecommunications companies, telecommunications companies, software developers, and logistics companies, among other things. The primary goal is cyber espionage and access to sensitive data that the Russians believe can give them an advantage on the battlefield. Enemy hackers also target Ukrainians through various phishing schemes. launched a massive collection of his personal data,” Kondrashov warned.

As reported, last week hackers from the Russian group “Solntsepyok” attacked Suspilny’s websites. And in mid-January, Ukrinform was also exposed to large-scale cyber attacks from the enemy. The State Intelligence Agency emphasizes that Russia is using the same tactics in cyberspace as it uses in conventional warfare: it is trying to attack civilian infrastructure.
