Apple Releases Second iOS 17 Beta

Apple this week released the second beta of the long-awaited iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to developers. It contains a number of improvements, news and fixes for the operating system used by the company on the iPhone, some of which Mundo Conectado has already announced after the company’s presentation at WWDC 2023.

The update screen introduced in the first beta now contains more information about the beta program, including how to join the program and the importance of backing up before installing beta software.

Several Apple-developed apps now use a tooltip feature that provides detailed information about available features. For example, the Messages app has a hint on how to send a message by speaking instead of typing using Siri.

AirDrop now prompts you to bring your phone close to another device if you can’t see people nearby. In the location settings, Apple has introduced a “MicroLocation” option, though it hasn’t explained what it is. App Clips and Standby Clock Faces location confirmation options are gone.

Other changes in iOS 17 introduced by Apple

In the Messages section of the Settings app, Apple has changed the wording of the data options for the registration feature. “Full” and “Restricted” options are now available instead of “Current Location Only” and “All Visited Locations”.

Restricted data refers to the current location, as well as battery and network signal information, while “Full” includes all restricted data, as well as the route traveled and location when the iPhone was last unlocked and the Apple Watch was removed.

Enabling Crossfade for Apple Music in the Settings app no longer causes the app to crash, and the duration can now be adjusted for the Crossfade feature. In addition, there is now an option to turn off idle notifications. Notifications rated “Critical” will be delivered even if this feature is disabled.

iOS 17 also brings significant improvements to the Messages, Phone, and FaceTime apps. Users will be able to create and customize contact posters, share contact cards more easily via NameDrop, use new FaceTime reactions and effects, and share stickers in new ways.
