According to Sungyun Choi, vice president of Samsung and head of the Advanced Communications Research Center: “We have long embarked on our journey to understand, develop and standardize 6G communications technology. We are committed to taking the initiative and sharing our discoveries to spread our vision and bring new experiences to all corners of life.” In other words, the South Korean technology giant has started working to release the next generation standard.
In addition, 6G requires broad bandwidth spectrum from hundreds of MHz to tens of GHz. Simply put, it will create exciting augmented reality (XR) as well as high-quality mobile holograms. The company is also focused on developing the scope of the next generation communication standard. To do this, it considers all available bands for 6G, from the sub-range below 1 GHz to the mid-range in the range of 1 to 24 GHz, and even the high bands in the range of 24 to 300 GHz.
As for the possible improvements 6G offers, Samsung claims that the speed of 6G can reach 1 terabit per second (Tbit/s), which is 50 times faster than 20 Gbps on 5G networks. During tests in June 2021, the company managed to demonstrate a data transfer rate of 6 Gbps at a distance of 15 meters indoors. At a distance of 30 meters indoors, the data transfer rate over the network was 12 Gbps. Even at a distance of 120 meters, the data transfer rate reached 2.3 Gbps. Samsung plans to share more details and results of its 6G research in the future, so stay tuned. Source
