US launches reconnaissance satellite into space

The American company United Launch Alliance launched the Delta IV Heavy launch vehicle with the American military reconnaissance satellite NROL68 on Thursday, June 22.

“One minute after starting NROL68. Delta IV Heavy is already traveling at over 1,600 km/h,” United Launch Alliance said in a statement.

According to the Space.com portal, the launch of the 71.6-meter launch vehicle was carried out at 12:18 Kiev time from the spaceport in Florida, USA.

Little is currently known about the NROL68 satellite, but this is not surprising considering it belongs to the US National Space Agency.

NROL-68 was ULA’s first mission in 2023 and Delta IV Heavy’s 15th mission over its lifetime.

NROL-68’s original launch date was Wednesday, June 21, but a problem with the ground system valve caused a one-day delay.

As Ukrinform reported, on Thursday, June 22, SpaceX launched a new batch of 47 Starlink internet satellites into orbit.
