The Matrix explained what a self-fulfilling prophecy is in a matter of seconds and in an extremely effective way. Now it looks like the open dispute between Sony and Microsoft over the purchase of Activision-Blizzard King might give us another example, this one still clearer and more obvious, how sometimes a human being directs his efforts to the fulfillment of certain predictions which he has made in advance, even when they are against his own interests.

If you’ve been following the soap opera that this attempted operation has become, you’ll recall that on more than one occasion, Sony hypothesized… in short, let’s say subtly, that if Microsoft were to take control of Activision-Blizzard, it was possible that that future parts of the group’s games (especially, of course, those of the Call of Duty franchise) will arrive on the PlayStation 5, as well as the later generations of its console, intentionally broken and underdeveloped. .

Call of Duty and more specifically its PlayStation 5 version, They represent a very important source of income for Activisionand with Microsoft presenting a multi-billion dollar buyout, it seems unlikely that they would think of shooting themselves in the foot, killing (or at least mortally wounding) the goose that laid the golden eggs. Microsoft has already recognized itself as the underdog in the video console market, and it seems unlikely that such a clumsy move could reverse that situation, but in this type of process, it seems perfectly legal to use your imagination to accuse the opposite.

Now it turns out that what Sony suggested could happen, but not because of Microsoft’s evil, no, because of the company’s own plans. And it is so, as we can read in the Wccfts, Jim Ryan has confirmed that Sony will not share PlayStation 6 information with Activision Blizzard if Microsoft completes the purchase operation.. In other words, if Microsoft takes over ABK, its developers will no longer have the opportunity to develop in the best conditions for the PlayStation 6.

Despite the fact that most regulators who had already ruled on the operation did so in favor, the rejection of the CMA and the preemptive blocking actions taken by the US FTC cast doubt on the outcome of the operation (again, as in the best soap operas). Now we know, and regulators should take note that it is Sony who, according to Jim Ryan, is considering a boycott of ABK titles on the PlayStation 6.
