Microsoft Azure

With the new Azure OpenAI Service On Your Data capability, companies can now use their own data to train specific AI models.

Microsoft launched Azure OpenAI Service On Your Data this week. This is a new feature that allows companies to feed their own data into AI models; a highly requested feature, claims Microsoft Azure’s Andy Beatman.

Advantages

By giving AI direct access to its own data, companies no longer need to train their models. Bots like ChatGPT base their answers on the most up-to-date and therefore most relevant information within a company itself.

Practical

Whether your data is stored in the cloud or on-premises, Azure OpenAI Service On Your Data can seamlessly connect to it. The function can also be easily integrated into existing systems via the API and the SDK (Software Development Kit) from Microsoft.

Azure OpenAI Service On Your Data supports connectivity to a variety of sources including:

  • Azure Cognitive Search Index – Connect your data to it for smooth integration with OpenAI models
  • Azure Blob Storage Containers – connect and analyze your data with Azure OpenAI Service
  • Local files – connect to files in your Azure AI portal: The system takes the data and forwards it to the Azure Cognitive Search index (which includes all formats such as TXT, MD, HTML, Word files, PowerPoint and can analyze PDF).

Also discover what the Azure OpenAI service models have to offer in the chat playground, a no-code experimentation environment. The system includes an interface and code samples from Phyton and CURL to integrate what you generate into your own systems.

That’s how you do it

To use Azure OpenAI Service for your data, you need a licensed Azure OpenAI Service application and a resource with an active gpt-3.5-turbo or gpt-4 model.

If that’s ok, you need to connect to a data source of your choice through Azure AI Studio. You can then chat and ask questions with the AI models, again through Azure AI Studio. Currently, Azure OpenAI Service On Your Data is only available in preview.

However, keep in mind that you are combining corporate information with freely public AI systems here, so some caution might be warranted.

Here to the StAI

In any case, it’s clear that Microsoft won’t be releasing artificial intelligence any time soon. Whether its own AI chip or a new data platform: AI is playing an increasingly important role within the American company.
