Intel China confirms 14th generation Raptor Lake processor update

After months of leaks and rumors, Intel has officially confirmed the existence of the Raptor Lake update, which is expected to be released later this year.

In a new post on Bilibili, Intel has confirmed its upcoming Raptor Lake processors, which will be the company’s last line of processors to use the current terminology before the company moves to the new Ultra core naming scheme. The new line will include two platforms: one for desktop PCs and one for mobile devices. In terms of features, the Raptor Lake series will include S and HX series processors for higher performance.

Alongside Raptor Lake, the post also mentions Raptor Lake-U and Meteor Lake-P, which will be the company’s first chips with new “Core” and “Core Ultra” brands. The new Core brand will also reset the Intel generation to one. In other words, the Meteor Lake-P mobile processor will be the new first generation processor, while the Raptor Lake-U series will be called Core 3/5/7 without the letter “i”. The Raptor Lake S and HX series will carry the existing series and will be Intel’s “Core i” branded 14th generation processors.

As confusing as it may seem, the brand difference will help customers easily distinguish between Intel’s Meteor Lake and Raptor-Lake U Refresh products, both of which will be released in the same generation. Also, the idea behind the new naming scheme is to help the average user understand the difference between the two processors without getting too hung up on the specs.

Intel has yet to release performance figures and data for the new processors, so it’s hard to compare them to current offerings. However, as with the last CPU upgrade, we expect the company to improve the core clock frequency and introduce additional boosts to increase speed. Unfortunately, there is no information on when Intel will introduce the new product line to consumers.
