The Japanese Ministry of Defense plans to use Starlink satellite internet service of American businessman Elon Musk’s SpaceX company in the armed forces from next year.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to local Japanese mass media, Ukrinform reports.

Since March, the Japan Self-Defense Forces has deployed the Starlink system to ten different locations across the country and is testing the effectiveness of its use for military needs.

Currently, the defense ministry of Japan uses communication satellites in geo-orbit, but is trying to improve communication stability by using Starlink technology with satellites in low Earth orbit.

Recently, some countries in the world have made significant efforts to ensure the reliability of military communications in the event of a possible conflict and to eliminate the risks of the enemy interfering with communications or attacking satellites.

Reuters reminds that Starlink is used by Ukraine in the war against Russia and this technology has proven its effectiveness, because the Russians, despite all attempts, have not succeeded in preventing its use.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Friday the Falcon 9 launch vehicle was launched into orbit with another batch of 55 mini-satellites to replenish the orbital group of the Starlink system’s global Internet coverage network.
