At a meeting in the Greek government, which was broadcast live on public television ERT, the head of state Katerina Sakelaropoulou instructed Mitsotakis to form the executive branch.

“An hour ago I received the final election results. Taking into account that an absolute majority has been achieved, I instruct to form a new government,” Sakelaropoulou told the conservative politician.

He promised “immediately” to switch to appointment of cabinet members “who will work hard” to bring about the “great changes and reforms” that the country needs.

According to Mitsotakis, his government will take office tomorrow, Tuesday and “He will get to work immediately.

Conservative politician ruling since 2019 won the 21 May legislative election. but when he did not receive an absolute majority, he decided not to form a government, which led to a repeat election in the country.

Formation of ND won yesterday’s elections with 40.5% of the vote, and thanks to the bonus of seats, the party with the most votes won 158 out of 300 seats in the Greek Parliament, and with it an absolute majority.

In second place was the opposition and left SYRIZA of the former head of government. Alexis Tsipras, with a real disaster since she barely met 17.8% of the vote and 48 seats.

“The citizens have given us a strong mandate to move faster on the path of great change”Mitsotakis said yesterday after his comprehensive victory.

Tsipras admitted his defeat and set his task “according to militants” preparation that could convene a meeting of its governing bodies in the coming days to decide its future.

At 11:00 local time (09:00 GMT), the Conservative leader will return to the President’s headquarters to sworn in as prime minister before Sakelaropoulou.
