Apple is working on a new iMac with a custom chip and a larger display than the iMac Pro.. The information comes from a recent report that says the company intends to add another all-in-one model to its family with a larger display than the iMac Pro launched in 2017.
This possible new iMac promises an even bigger screen than the previous model, at 30 inches. It’s slightly larger than the iMac Pro, which is 27 inches. Nevertheless, the report suggests that the Cupertino-based company is also working on smaller 24-inch models.. The exact specs of the 30-inch iMac are not yet known, but it is expected to feature a powerful version of Apple Silicon.
To differentiate the 30-inch iMac from the rest of the lineup, Apple may include options from the M3 Pro or M3 Max. The rumored M3 Pro variant is being tested with a 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and support for 36GB of unified RAM. The new iMac, which has more heat dissipation space, will allow Apple to fit a larger heatsink to control the temperature of the M3 Pro or M3 Max.
If the 30-inch iMac comes with an IPS display, Apple could implement ProMotion technology to encourage consumers to pay more for an exclusive upgrade. In any case, all information about the device is still open, as it has not yet been confirmed by the manufacturer.
It’s worth remembering that with Apple Silicon, it’s not possible to upgrade existing memory in current models other than by configuring the specs on the company’s website. This means that, unlike the iMac Pro, which had user-replaceable RAM, the 30-inch model likely won’t, making it harder on the consumer’s budget.
Rumors of a new iMac launch also served to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman to also report that Apple is working on iPad updates for next year, including models with OLED screens and a refreshed iPad Air.
