Will high-end Android phones have 24 gigabytes of RAM in the near future? This is what Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station said, predicting the upcoming appearance of a device with this excessive amount of memory, which is even higher than what is included in many x86 computers that usually run Windows.

Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo that Oga has started working on making 24GB RAM common among Android users. For those who are lost, the creators of Oga consist of Realme, OnePlus and Oppo. Of course, the mention of Oga does not necessarily mean that the three brands are working to include 24GB of RAM in smartphones, which of course would be implemented in the models or at least some high-end model.

That there are high-end smartphones with 16 GB of RAM is something that is normal, despite the fact that the applications that usually run on these types of devices rarely justify such an amount of memory. Increasing the capacity to 24GB would be the next step to generate buzz, talk about and publicize the devices that will include them, and serve as a marketing campaign, especially for those people who are looking for something with a certain exclusive profile within Android , although this elitist distinction is strongly dominated by Apple with its iPhones when push comes to shove.

Android smartphone of Chinese origin

For years, high-end smartphones have tended to implement features that are too much for the average user, such as 200-megapixel cameras. These exaggerated features serve to provide value and justify the price of the devices that include them, but in reality, few users will actually use them and it’s hard to find apps that justify that much RAMexcept perhaps graphically “powerful” video games that were made with an engine like the Unreal Engine, to mention a useful example.

Aside from a few apps that would use 24GB of RAM, we find that normalizing that much memory could be an incentive for developers to stop optimizing on some fronts, especially when we see devices being used so much that, on paper, they should would be able to handle poorly optimized applications. Delegating optimization to hardware performance or capacity is a long-standing trend in the software development industry and is one of the reasons we’ve seen such mediocre PC ports in recent months.

The inclusion of 24GB of RAM in high-end smartphones is currently a leak without official confirmation, but it’s an idea that sounds plausible given the commercial orientation of these devices. The fact that mobiles with more RAM than PCs become common can have negative consequencesAmong them, they severely limit applications that can be run on old devices or that lack power and capacity.
