Snowflake and Nvidia will work together to enable customers to easily leverage data in Snowflake to train complex generative AI models. The two companies announced this during the Snowflake Summit in Las Vegas.

data cloud

Cooperation is of great importance. Snowflake positions itself as a “data cloud” that enables users to manage, consume, and even share structured and unstructured data without ever having to copy it. The No copyPolicies ensure organizations remain in full control of all their data and policies are properly enforced.

The approach implies that Snowflake must make its cloud compatible with important new data-related capabilities. This is part of this new collaboration with Nvidia. This allows customers to use the data in their Snowflake accounts to train generative AI models using the Nvidia NeMo platform.

This means that Snowflake also provides GPU processing power from Nvidia within the Snowflake platform. “That’s why the partnership with Nvidia, which gives us access to the GPUs, is so important,” said Benoit Dageville, co-founder of Snowflake.

Complementary Partners

Nvidia and Snowflake complement each other very well in this case. A key challenge for AI is training models on enterprise data, which is sometimes sensitive and should by no means be public. Nvidia, in turn, makes extra money as more companies train models, as it does so within frameworks and specifically on vendor hardware.

All relevant data resides on the Snowflake platform. This platform already allows customers to build apps with their data and even that of other companies, through implementations where the data always remains securely owned by the original party and there is no risk of data leakage. In this regard, the Nvidia-Snowflake tandem now allows advanced models to be trained on sensitive data, without the need to suddenly copy that data to an external location, with all the consequences that that entails.
