The new Telegram Stories feature will be available in the instant messaging app in Julyaccording to the official announcement of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov.

Although the company was initially against adding this feature because “it’s been everywhere” he wanted to listen to his users. And according to the executive these “They’ve been asking for it for years, accounting for more than half of all new feature requests Telegram receives”.

Are these features needed in a messaging app? Of course not, but there will be those who want it. Durov adds that after internal testing Tales, even Telegram team skeptics started to appreciate it and that society “I can’t imagine a courier service without it”.

“Stories” will be placed in a drop-down section at the top of the chat list. Users will be able to decide who sees them, all your contacts, some selected or a specific list. Users will also be able to hide any contact’s posts by moving them to the “Hidden” list in the Contacts section instead of the main screen.

Users will have the option add captions and links to your stories. There will also be an option to tag other people. In particular, you’ll be able to post photos and videos taken with the front and rear cameras simultaneously in a similar style to what BeReal does.

Each user can choose when the published story expiresin 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours. Or it can be permanently displayed on the profile page, similar to how Instagram allows featured stories to be displayed.

“The ability to save your stories on the profile page will make Telegram profiles more informative and colorful.”emphasizes Durov in the advertisement. “Not only will you be able to explore more content from your close contacts, but you’ll end up learning more about the users you connect with in groups or channel comments.”. And speaking of channels, the CEO says they will benefit from more exposure and subscribers: “Once we launch the ability to forward messages from channels to stories, it will be much easier to spread viruses on Telegram”.

Telegram Stories is in final testing and will be available in early July. Durov believes that the function “will open a new era in Telegram” and will allow the platform to become more social than it currently is.
