Qnap expands its SMB NAS offering with the TS-855X, enabling small businesses to build storage and virtualization environments with the lowest total cost of ownership.
Meet the TS-855X, Qnap’s latest storage server for the SMB market. According to the press release, six 3.5-inch HDDs and two 2.5-inch SSDs fit in the hybrid storage box. The storage capacity can be expanded flexibly and 25GbE network connections are supported by installing a compatible PCIe card.
The Qnap TS-855X offers various possible uses, from data backup to supporting virtualization. This is made possible by an Intel Atom C5125 processor with eight cores and a clock speed of 2.8 GHz, in combination with 128 GB of DDR4 memory. The storage server has one 10GbE port and two 2.5GbE ports for connectivity. There are also four UDIMM DDR4 (8GB) slots that can be upgraded to 128GB.

The TS-855X is certified by VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V for virtualization storage. This allows you to host virtual machines with Virtualizations Station. In order to protect data from cyber attacks, Qnap enables the creation of regular snapshots. The system software is QTS, but for higher data integrity, the storage server can also be switched to QuTS hero.
Qnap is also rather sparse with information about the product. The press release does not communicate information on prices and availability. We will update this article once we know more about it.
