Users google wallet (or Google Wallet) in Brazil will be the first in the world to have access to the ability to make payments by reading QR code. At the California giant’s event held on Tuesday morning (27) in Sao Paulo, it was confirmed that almost all Android smartphones will be able to make digital payments using credit and debit cards.
The company confirmed the change and said it would provide details soon.
The new feature, which will be launched in the coming months, makes smartphones with system version 7.0 or higher capable of making digital payments. In doing so, Google intends to democratize access to a service that was once limited to mobile phones equipped with NFC technology used to approximate payments.
“The data shows that a significant portion of the Brazilian population is ultimately denied access to the ease and security of digital payments made with Google Wallet. QR code payment is a technology designed and developed for markets like ours that will further expand the digital democratization already enabled by the Android system.“, – says Natasha Litvinova, Head of Google Payments Strategy and Operations in Latin America.
Currently, Google allows you to add almost all debit and credit cards issued in Brazil to Google Wallet. Currently, according to the company, more than 95% of cards issued in Brazil can be added to the device.
1. Download the Google Wallet app from the Play Store;
2. Add a credit and debit card;
3. Validate the card in the application of your bank;
4. Shop as usual;
5. Please tell me when you pay that you want to pay with QR code;
6. Choose whether you want to pay by debit or credit (if you need to split the amount, tell the attendant about it);
7. Open your Google Wallet;
8. Point your mobile phone camera at the rolling code displayed on the machine screen;
9. Check the payment details on your mobile phone and confirm the transaction;
10. Your payment receipt will be stored in Google Wallet, so it will always be at your fingertips.
Please be aware that the purchase process may require password or biometric authentication, depending on the card issuer and the amount of the transaction.
The California-based company estimates that using Google Wallet is safer than using physical cards because Google Pay does not send information about your real card. Instead, the merchant receives a unique encrypted code called a token. Remember that Google Pay also uses this feature to generate virtual card numbers and security codes for every transaction.
“User safety is our top priority when developing products, and we adhere to strict standards of privacy, transparency, choice and control. This was an issue during the development of the QR code payment feature, which we are excited to make available in Brazil in the coming months.” says Ashley Jiang, Wallet Product Manager at Google and Head of QR Code Payment Development.
Also, according to the company’s security team, Google Wallet will always require a mobile phone to be unlocked before a transaction for security reasons.
