To show organizations the trees through the SaaS forest, AWS launches AppFabric. AppFabric brings together third-party applications to manage them in one place.
AWS announces the general availability of AppFabric in a press release. The English word “fabric” means “tissue” in Dutch and that’s what AppFabric should be. With AppFabric, companies can move third-party SaaS applications to the central management console of the AWS cloud. This should make it easier for applications from different manufacturers to “talk” to each other and also make it possible to define uniform security rules.
Organizations could use some help navigating the SaaS jungle. According to Statista, a company currently uses more than a hundred different applications on average. This oversupply of applications leads to siloing, which is one of the biggest obstacles to efficient data use, as several studies have already shown.
Generative AI
Therefore, AWS believes that AppFabric will also help organizations to use generative AI in their daily operations. A future version of AppFabric will add AI capabilities that will proactively collect data from connected apps and make suggestions for management. This is also a good opportunity for AWS to re-promote Bedrock, as we sometimes forget that Amazon is also in the AI race.
AppFabric is available immediately, although availability in Europe is currently limited to the Ireland cloud region. AWS promises that other regions will follow soon, so that companies connected to the data centers in Frankfurt and Paris will soon be able to use AppFabric.
