On Monday, June 26, SpaceX conducted static tests of the new Starship spacecraft preparing for orbital flight. This is the new Starship that will attempt to climb into orbit after its April launch, which resulted in a controlled explosion. The Starship will be mounted on a Super Heavy launch vehicle for the second test flight of the reusable rocket system.
Founder Elon Musk tweeted that the test was “a start to Mars” and an “important milestone for the second flight”. The Starship’s six engines fired for about six seconds before shutting down as planned.
Musk estimated that the launch pad, Super Heavy launch vehicle, and Starship could be ready for a second launch in about six weeks. SpaceX has made more than 1,000 modifications to its Starship rocket since its first launch in April.
The first launch of the giant Starship rocket took place on April 20, but was supposed to launch 4 minutes after launch.
