The European Southern Observatory’s VLT telescope recently took pictures, and on June 27, ESO released an image of the nebula that looks a lot like a red cat’s head.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Inverse.

Known as Sh2-284, this nebula is a dense region of gas and dust where new stars are forming.

A particularly bright newborn star cluster, called Dolidze 25, burns in the very center of the brightest part of the nebula (under the cat’s nose – ed.). These young massive stars accumulate electrons from the surrounding hydrogen clouds, filling the surrounding space with strong stellar winds and intense radiation.

This ionized hydrogen gas glows bright orange and red in the telescope image. That is why the Sh2-84 looks like a red cat.

Stellar winds from Dolidze 25 also push gas away from the cluster, creating a void in the center of the nebula and collecting the wind-driven gas into denser clumps that can eventually cause new stars to form.

If you look closely at the star cluster, you can see denser columns of gas and dust that are too powerful to be washed away by stellar winds. These pillars form their own bright star clusters.

As Ukrinform reports, the NASA/ESA Hubble space telescope photographed the bright globular star cluster NGC 6544 in the constellation Sagittarius.
