First tip: learn the basics!
There are over 700 programming languages, and beginners may wonder which one to learn. The advice here is that it doesn’t really matter in the beginning. It is important to understand the basics of programming, how to create functions and variables, understand conditional statements and data structures. In other words, the first step is to really start without thinking that one language is easier or harder than another. Then choose the language that best suits your specific purpose or interest. A very simple example: if you want to get started in data science, go with Python.
Be part of the open source community
Being part of the community will give you the tools and support you need to explore deeper. “THEN open source it’s all about sharing and collaborationso a space like GitHub, which brings together millions of developers with different skill levels from all over the world, is a great environment for newcomers to share their code and ask questions to the community,” says Julio Viana, Regional Manager Github in Brazil.

For example, the Brazilian Internal Developers Community has a place to post jobs, events, discussion forums, and a list of Brazilian open source projects for those who want to learn and contribute.
Find out more about the area
To get into the logic of the programming world, there are many books and online courses available, many of which are free. A few examples: GitHub Global Campuschannels in YouTube or twitch in programming (for example, Brazilian leuxica and MorgannaDev This campus tv). Viana also invites those interested in learning to code to join and enroll in training courses in the area.

Practice what you have learned
As with all skills, it takes practice. Practice can help improve understanding, identify weaknesses, and therefore increase productivity and efficiency. Whether you’re starting your own project or looking to contribute to others, there’s no better way to learn than to practice. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best, but without practice they would not have succeeded.

“At the beginning of a journey, whether it’s a boot camp, an online program, or self-study, it’s important to have an open mind and always learn,” Viana said. “Software development is an ever-evolving skill. No matter how mature or young you are, or how long you’ve been programming, there’s always something to learn – that’s what makes it so special.”
