Proximus has come a long way with the introduction of fiber optic internet, which can reach speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s. From July 10th, Proximus will offer the higher speeds as standard in its fiber optic Internet subscriptions.

updated 29.06. 08:49: 10 Gbit/s Internet is available in all areas with Giber coverage, Proximus announces in a press release. From July 10th it will be integrated into new Flex Fiber packages. Existing fiber optic customers also automatically receive higher speeds.

Original article 23/02 08h: In October 2022, Proximus announced the ultra-fiber offer, and now the provider has also started to roll out the new fiber optic network. Proximus announces via the Twitter channel that the “fastest internet in Belgium” is available in Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels, Liège and Namur. Proximus wants to expand the ultra-fiber network nationwide by the summer.

8.5 + 1.5 = 10

Proximus offers Internet speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s in the new offer, but this should be used with caution. The maximum download speed is 8.5 Gbps and the maximum upload speed is 1.5 Gbps. Add those two numbers together and you get 10 Gbps.

Although you won’t reach the magic 10 Gbps in practice, the download and upload speeds are much faster than the average speeds of your telecom subscription. The images below show how it differs from 1 Gbit/s Internet, the fastest Internet currently offered by Proximus.

Business Ultra Fiber

Proximus is not yet revealing subscription prices in the announcement, but HLN journalist Kenneth Dée reckons they will be €113 per month. These are then the target prices for the private market.

The faster fiber optic Internet will also be available to business customers under the name “Business Ultra Fiber”. Proximus will inform the companies as soon as they can make the switch. Prices for the business market are also not known for the time being.
