North America’s first hydrogen-powered train begins carrying passengers in Canada.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by the CBC.

The launch of this train was a demonstration of how electricity stored in the form of hydrogen could replace diesel fuel on railways where it would be difficult to lay electrified tracks or overhead wires.

Advocates of using hydrogen in heavy-duty vehicles say it could raise public awareness and increase confidence in the new technology in North America.

The tourist train, made by the French company Alstom, carries 120 people in two carriages and travels from Montmorency Falls in Quebec to Beau-Saint-Paul from Wednesday to Sunday, September 30.

It was noted that the train uses about 50 kilograms of hydrogen per day. This replaces about 500 liters of diesel that will be burned during the journey.

As reported by Ukrinform, Deputy Minister of Energy Yaroslav Demchenkov noted that Ukraine has the potential to produce and export hydrogen, as well as the experience of producing carbon-free hydrogen at the Zaporizhia NPP for its own needs.
