The take-off took place at around 17:40 Kiev time from the “America” spaceport in New Mexico. SpaceShipTwo reached suborbital space approximately 58 minutes later.
After a few minutes of gliding at an altitude of 83 kilometers, the spacecraft returned to the cosmodrome and landed at 18:45 Kiev time.
SpaceShipTwo launches from the VSS Unity launch vehicle at an altitude of approximately 15 kilometers. The name of the mission was “Galactic 01”.
The passengers of the cruise ship remain in weightlessness for several minutes and can see the Earth against the darkness of space. The ship’s disembarkation takes place approximately 90 minutes after take-off.
Galactic 01 was attended by representatives of the Italian Air Force and the Italian National Research Council, which commissioned the space expedition to conduct suborbital research in 2019.
According to Virgin Galactic, hundreds of people have already booked a trip with SpaceShipTwo that costs $450,000 per seat.
The company’s next commercial flight will take place in early August, after which Virgin Galactic plans to launch them monthly.
