The updated version of the iPhone iOS 17 operating system will bring users a number of new features. Among them is a significant update to the Health app, which for the first time will receive features entirely dedicated to mental health called State of Mind.
These features include the ability to record and understand your feelings, as well as suggest actions to improve your mood and overall mental health. It will be a kind of mood diary where users write it down at different times of the day.
State of mind responses will range from “Very unpleasant” to “Very pleasant”. The idea is that these entries can help identify patterns and reflect what influences the user’s mood throughout the day.
In addition, the app allows you to add context to your recordings to better understand emotional variations. Given enough information, State of Mind can suggest activities to help improve your mood, such as exercising, drinking water, sleeping more, etc.
This information can be correlated with other activities and displayed on mental health trend charts. So iPhone users using the app will be able to get some help to improve their routine and behave better throughout the day.
iOS 17 also provides access to assessments and features commonly used by physicians. The user can answer a series of questions about how they feel and then see their current risk for anxiety or depression. The application can offer an appointment with a professional, and the user can create a PDF of the recorded results to share with the doctor.
Also new in iOS 17 is an update to the Medications app. With this update, users can receive drug, vitamin, and supplement registration reminders on their Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad. The charts in the Health app show detailed information about when and how medications are consistently taken.
Apple is also adding a new “Daylight Measurement” feature that uses the Apple Watch’s ambient light sensor to show how much time a user spends in the sun each day. The idea is to raise awareness of the importance of sunlight for mental health.
Additionally, to prevent the risk of nearsightedness in children using devices with TrueDepth cameras, iOS 17 introduces a Screen Distance feature that reminds users to move their devices to a safe distance from their eyes.
