The Lord of the Rings: Gollum It was another of the failed launches we experienced in this first half of 2023. It is true that practically every year there is a release of this type, but at least in my personal perception, the last two or three years have been particularly intense in this regard. However, in a few cases (actually I can only think of one clear one) we saw how it was possible to redeem yourself and offer a great game. And yes, I mean Cyberpunk 2077.

In order to achieve this, it is known that CD Projekt RED hHe had to turn around for a long time to fix everything that was wrong, as well as incorporating at least some of what was originally promised. It’s true that the promised life in the vertical (ie the enormous amount of content and elements in the buildings) was never quite what we were sold before its launch, but hey, we can turn a blind eye because the evolution of the title , since its launch in 2020 , is spectacular, helped in no small part by the assumption that the previous generation of consoles severely hampered its development and capabilities.

Cyberpunk 2077 had bugs and missing elements, but from the first moment it showed possibilities (which were confirmed over time), something that did not happen with it. Lord of the Rings: Gollum, if he were a six-legged table, he’d limp on seven.. Technically it’s a disaster, argumentatively it’s only two points above the catalog buy script, the mechanics apart from being limited are absurd and worst of all the only way to fix it to make it a good game would be to go back and start . Yes, from scratch. It’s an unsolvable mess.

His studio had to issue an apology after the launch, saying that it has taken all feedback well and is already working on fixing the issues. It was over a month ago, but we are still in the same situation. And as we can read in DSOG, already We can’t wait to redeem Lord of the Rings: Gollum as Daedalic Entertainment announces the closure of its development department. So we have to hope that they will at least fix the bugs, but of course it is clear that there will be no expansions or improvements in the future.

The good news if you’re a fan of the universe created by Tolkien and this type of product turns your stomach is that the closure of Daedalic Entertainment is reflected in the cancellation of the project of another title based on Lord of the Rings that was planned for the future. And it’s like, seeing what they did with Lord of the Rings: Gollum, it’s scary to think what that future development could be.

Daedalic Entertainment is not going away as a company, but from now on it will act only as a distributor-publisher titles developed by third parties, an activity in which he already has experience and in which he has not done too badly in the past.
