Just three weeks ago, I told you that AMD could give socket AM4 a second life with the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, a processor that will be based on Zen Architecture 3which means that it will have an IPC at the level of the Ryzen 5 5600X, that it will be manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm node and that it will have a configuration six cores and twelve threads.
Well, this information has been confirmed, although it seems that the mentioned processor It will be exclusive to the United States., specifically from the Micro Center store. Its launch will take place on July 7, i.e. within a week.
The main difference between this processor and the Ryzen 5 5600X will be that the Ryzen 5 5600X3D will have 64MB of additional 3D buffer stacked, which means that in total this chip will have 96 MB of L3 cache, in addition to 3 MB of L2 cache, which leaves us with 99 MB of cache (L2 + L3). Its TDP will be 105 watts, 40 watts higher than the model without 3D cache.
This increase in L3 cache translates into a significant improvement in the gaming performance of this processor. When I see the performance offered by the Ryzen 7 5800X3D compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X, I think that generally speaking we can expect the Ryzen 5 5600X3D to offer similar gaming performance to what we would have with the Ryzen 5 7600X.
If we talk about synthetic tests and process applications, the performance of Ryzen 5 5600X3D will be lower than the performance of Ryzen 5 5600X because in such applications the L3 cache has no effect, and because the first one will have a lower operating frequency (it will go 300 MHz less). It will be priced at $229.99, a figure that, after taxes and currency conversion, would translate to approximately 255 euros in Spain, although, as I said, it doesn’t look like he’s about to leave the United States.
for the money we could get Ryzen 7 7600X, so the truth is that in the end the Ryzen 5 5600X3D would occupy a very specific position and would be really interesting only for a specific type of user, i.e. someone who wants to update a PC on the AM4 platform and will use it primarily for gaming. Before I finish, I’ll leave you with the full specs of this processor:
