Space agency NASA has shared a new 4K resolution video from the surface of Mars. Compiled from many images taken by the powerful HIRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
The video shows the grooved terrain inside the ancient crater more than 270 kilometers wide. Inside you can see dried-up streams, steep rocky slopes, and other features of the Red Planet landscape. This region is called Chaos Aram (Aram Chaos).
The absence of the usual red tones for Mars and the dominance of blue are immediately striking. This is due to the large amount of basalt – igneous rock formed on the planet during times of volcanic activity.
The HIRISE camera can detect very small objects such as a kitchen table. Thanks to this, the video turned out to be very detailed.
