The crisis, however, is not over, and the country is experiencing its fifth night of unrest on the same day that Nahel M., victim of police brutality, he was buried privately.
Tonight, the government of Emmanuel Macron has mobilized 45,000 police officers and will send reinforcements to three cities where violence has increased: Marseille, Lyon and Grenoble.

However, the number of detainees was a record: 1311 throughout France. Other indicators, such as the number of cars set on fire (1350) and the number of buildings damaged (about 234 buildings), were almost halved, and the number of injured agents was reduced from almost 300 to 79 people.
Due to the lack of information about the security arrangements for tonight, cities such as Marseille and Lyon, which had suffered severe looting and urban damage yesterday, asked the government to send reinforcements, which Darmanin later confirmed.
In these southeastern cities, the night was lived more intensely than in the Paris area, which exacerbated the damage of the previous days, such as the attack in Marseille on the large Alcazar municipal library, which was set on fire.
Macron cancels trip to Germany
In view of the gravity of the situation, Emmanuel Macron has decided to postpone the state visit to Germany that he had planned between this Sunday and next Tuesday, despite the fact that this trip is of great strategic importance due to the controversy that has been taking place lately. The Elysee Palace announced this decision after Macron had a conversation with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
“Given the domestic situation, the President of the Republic (Macron) has made it clear that he wants to be able to stay in France for the next few days. Therefore, the two presidents agreed to postpone the visit to Germany to a later date, ”the sources at the Elysee Palace said.
This Saturday, Macron did not make public statements, but he had meetings with mayors from all over the country on the agenda.
Nahel killed by the police: the trigger
The trigger for this wave of unrest was the death last Tuesday of a 17-year-old young man of North African descent named Nahel, who was fatally shot by a police officer while trying to flee from a police checkpoint in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris.
Pictures of the incident, recorded by eyewitnesses, caused strong indignation in the country, which turned into riots, especially in the popular quarters of large cities and in the Paris agglomeration.
The young man’s funeral took place this morning in private, as the family clarified that they want a day of “discretion” and “remembrance” and asked that journalists not be present.
