We had our first official confirmation of Threads in early March, although the Meta P92 name was leaked at the time.something we only learned a few weeks ago, what Meta Project 92 stands for, and which, as I hinted at the beginning, is to be called Threads, a name that seems not to have been innocently chosen, and this confirms that Mark Zuckerberg’s intentions are to feud with Elon Musk, something that, if he acts quickly, could be a great time.
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, let’s start with a quick recap: Last November, Instagram launched a new feature called Notes, where users can share very, very short posts, only sixty characters (including emoticons). Although its use did not take on a mass dimension, it was well received by users who positively evaluate the possibilities of such a short new medium.
So after his debut We learned that Meta was considering the possibility of Notes segregation, so it stopped being a feature of Instagram and became an independent service destined to compete with Twitter. And Meta, without denying it or remaining silent, decided to publish a statement in which she stated the following: «we are investigating an independent decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there is an opportunity to create a separate space where creators and public figures can share current information about their interests.«. Clearer, water.
Well, it seems that its launch is nearing Threads has already appeared on Google Play, although it is not yet possible to download the application. At the time of publication, the bookmark is active and visible, although it is true that, from what we could read, some users claim that it has appeared and disappeared several times in the last hours. So it can be expected that its launch is coming, although according to some sources, it will be necessary to have an invitation to access the service in its first phase.
As you can see in the pictures, The thread design is very reminiscent of Twitter, which we have seen before in other services that also reproduce the operation of the little bird’s social network. Of course, the meta emphasizes the link between this new service and Instagram to the extent that, as you can see on the Google Play page, the full display name is “Threads, an Instagram app.”
And what is the proposal? Meta defines it like this:
Express yourself better with Threads, Instagram’s text chat app
Threads are a space where communities come together for a variety of discussions, from topics that interest you today to topics that will trend in the future. Whatever your interest, you can follow your favorite creators and connect directly with them and other like-minded people, or build your own loyal fan base and share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.
So the orientation seems to point to build communities around content creators on Instagram. Now, given the design that Threads points to in what we’ve had the chance to see, there’s nothing stopping it from introducing usage patterns similar to those found on Twitter.
