Microsoft has been working to bring an AI assistant to Windows for a long time. First tried with Cortana in January 2015 but it didn’t work. Cortana was recently shut down after eight years. But inspired by the AI trend that ChatGPT started, Microsoft decided to try again. They started working on the Windows Copilot feature. They have now released a preview of Windows Copilot.
When Cortana was first announced, many were excited about the idea of having an AI assistant to help them with their daily tasks. But the technology wasn’t ready yet, and Cortana never reached its potential. Now Microsoft is trying to restart Windows Copilot.
This new AI assistant is currently available to Windows 11 Developer Channel Insiders. Copilot is designed to provide real-time assistance and assists users with tasks such as writing code, creating emails, and creating presentations. You can access the assistant by clicking the button on the taskbar or using the WIN + C key combination.
After activation, Windows Copilot will appear as a panel on the side of the screen. Users can then issue commands to the assistant such as “type ‘hello world'” or “open Microsoft Edge”. The Assistant will do the rest by automatically entering or opening the desired item. In addition to providing real-time assistance, Windows Copilot can learn from user habits and preferences over time.
This means that the assistant will become more accurate and useful as you actively use it. Windows Copilot is still in early preview, but it has the potential to be a powerful productivity tool. Assistant is especially useful for people who are new to Windows or have trouble using a computer.
