Nokia selects Red Hat OpenStack and OpenShift to develop its core telecom network applications.

Nokia works with Red Hat for the software portion of its core telecommunications network. The aim is to integrate applications with Red Hat OpenStack and OpenShift. Existing container services and software will be migrated to Red Hat’s open source platform in the future. Accelerating cooperation in the development of the Nokia portfolio.

Although Nokia now relies on Red Hat as its primary infrastructure platform, Nokia Container Services (NCS) and Nokia CloudBand Infrastructure Software (CBIS) will continue to receive support.

More flexibility

The cooperation with Red Hat is intended to give Nokia and customers more flexibility in the introduction of 5G and all associated applications. A key part of this is support for OpenRAN, which gives telcos more flexibility in terms of the infrastructure partners they work with.

With its platform, Red Hat is strongly committed to 5G and telecommunications. The introduction of real-time Linux, among other things, fits into this picture. To prepare its offering for the telecom industry, Red Hat had to work closely with a broad ecosystem of hardware partners including Intel, Marvell, and Qualcomm.
