Construction of the world’s five largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks, each capable of holding 270,000 cubic meters of liquefied energy carriers, has been completed in southern China’s Guangdong province.

As reported by Ukrinform, CGTN reports this.

The base of the tanks, each 65.7 meters high, located in the city of Zhuhai, is called the “Green Energy Port” and was built using Chinese basic technologies. It has become one of the projects with the most complex geological conditions and the most complex seismic project in China.

Project manager Han Xiaokang said that during the construction, which lasted only 18 months, modern digital smart platforms, smart construction site model, fully automatic welding methods and other efficient management and construction methods were implemented.

The first phase of this LNG storage and transport base became operational in 2013. It is expected to be the largest in Southern China, with an annual LNG processing capacity of 7 million tonnes, equivalent to around 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas, after commercial commissioning of five new oversized tanks planned next year. This will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 33.52 million tons.

As Ukrinform reported, Chinese Premier Li Qiang is confident that his government will be able to keep the Chinese economy growing at the planned level of about 5% this year.
