UN to introduce humanoid robots at a conference in Switzerland

Dozens of robots, including human-like ones, will be unveiled in Switzerland this week. Robots will hold a press conference as part of the events organized by the UN technology agency.

This presentation has potential UN in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the organization in 2015. They are designed to improve the lives of people and the planet by 2030.

At the event, developments in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be explained. In particular, the star of the event will be the social robot “Nadine”, which imitates emotions, remembers people and has been used before in working with residents of the senior hostel.

The culmination of the two-day event will be the world’s first press conference on robots, which will answer questions from journalists on Friday.

“The idea is to showcase the capabilities, opportunities and challenges to start a global dialogue on robotics,” said Frederic Werner, head of strategic engagement at ITU’s Telecommunications Standardization Office.

He added that generative artificial intelligence (AI) as well as robots could become popular in the next five years.

“We are now at a crossroads where materials science, battery life, networking, artificial intelligence and machine learning will come together to make robots more accessible,” he said.

This announcement was made on the eve of the “AI for Good” event in Geneva, where as many as 5,000 guests are expected.
