Europe’s most powerful launch vehicle, Ariane 5, of the French company Arianespace, made its final launch after 27 years of service.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Space.com.

It was noted that on Thursday, July 6, at 01:00 Kiev time, the 31.6-meter Ariane 5 launch vehicle was launched from the European spaceport in French Guiana, which contains two satellites.

After about 30 minutes of flight, the first satellite, named Heinrich-Hertz, was launched into geostationary orbit. About three minutes later, a second payload, known as Syracuse 4B, followed.

“Ariane 5 has done its job perfectly. It is now truly a legendary launcher,” said Stephan Israel, CEO of Arianespace.

The Ariane 5 launch vehicle was first launched in 1996, but failed to reach orbit on its maiden takeoff, triggering automatic self-destruct mid-flight.

Despite this initial failure, the rocket later managed to become one of the most reliable in the world.

The launch vehicle, which has sent 239 payloads from 117 Ariane 5 missions and into orbit, has successfully completed 96% of its missions, according to the European Space Agency.

Ariane 5’s successor, Ariane 6, is expected to be ready for launch before the end of this year.

As Ukrinform reported, on Tuesday, June 27, the American company SpaceX conducted a static fire test of the engines before the second launch of the Starship space rocket system.
