Criminals exploit the reputation of the Ukraine World Congress, a well-known international non-governmental organization, and exploit the issue of Ukraine’s possible membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
CERT-UA experts discovered a malicious website at: hxxps://www.ukrainianworldcongress.infoIt was created to emulate the English version of the legal website of the Ukrainian World Congress (found at hxxps://ukrainianworldcongress.org/).
After investigating the fake web page, it was found to contain two potentially malicious documents in DOCX format, whose names referred to Ukraine and NATO. It is worth emphasizing that Opening these documents may lead to the unintentional installation of MAGICSPELL ransomware on the user’s device..
Given the thematic importance of these files, there is a possibility that this cyber attack is directly related to the NATO summit to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania on 11-12 July 2023.
