Google’s privacy policy has been updated in the US. The tech giant is now also using all available data to train its own AI systems.

Last weekend, the data protection regulations in the USA were apparently adjusted at Google. From now on, all available data will also be used to train your own AI.

What does that mean

Basically, this means that Google can use almost the entire internet to train its chatbot Bard or AI applications for its cloud services. Until recently, the terms meant that data was used for language models, for Google Translate. This has now been adapted to AI models.

This sharpens the focus again on the role of copyright in artificial intelligence training data. For example, this is one of the reasons Twitter recently changed its API policy, albeit with the necessary stops. In his own words, data scraping even prompted Elon Musk to impose a strong restriction read tweets. A measure that has now apparently been withdrawn. And which was probably initiated earlier due to technical issues and lack of manpower to resolve them quickly.

Copyright has been a hot topic in the world of AI for some time, and it’s not about to change anytime soon. Google’s handling of this concept also prevents Europe, for example, from allowing Google Bard in the EU. This no doubt also explains why we don’t see the changes to Google’s privacy policy when reviewing it here in Europe.

Therefore, for the time being, these adjustments appear to only apply to the US, or at least not to the EU. Given the relationship between the European Union and Google, that’s probably not a bad idea.
