In a new Gartner survey, nearly four in five business strategists said they see AI, analytics and automation as critical to their business over the next two years.

Research firm Gartner shared the results of a survey of a number of business strategists across industries. It shows that 79 percent of them see AI, analytics and automation as critical to their business over the next two years.

The survey ran from October last year to April 2023. Respondents included 200 top corporate strategists from various industries in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia.

Half of the respondents believe that planning and many practical implementations can be partially or even fully automated. According to David Akers, Gartner’s director of strategy, many strategists are ready to embrace the digital world.

That could be right. Currently, one in five employs some form of AI tool at work, but many respondents indicated they are moving more in that direction. About half of the respondents show great interest in things like machine learning or predictive analytics.

The biggest stumbling block, on the other hand, seems to be the clear benefit of the new technologies. According to Akers, this is due to the ever-growing supply and because there are currently few precedents for corporate strategists to rely on. The majority of those surveyed who declared themselves ready for further technological development are primarily looking at technologies that have already been successfully implemented elsewhere.

Gartner therefore advises companies to first get an overview of the specific needs in the company. Then we can see which technology can be used where. For this, companies have to think of three bags:

• The benefit of each technology
• Possible effects
• Are they easy to implement?

Another recent Gartner study found that many organizations expect to expand their IT teams in the near future. This is consistent with this investigation. In addition to the implementation of new technologies, sustainability also plays a role. The research institute learned this at the beginning of the year after a survey of more than two hundred companies.
