Ubisoft says Mirage is breaking new ground as a “shorter narrative game” than its predecessors and that “pays homage to the roots of the series”so we can expect more stealth, assassination and parkour, and less of the role-playing elements that were heavily incorporated from Origins.

“From the beginning, we had an ambitious premise: to help players better understand the world of 9th century Baghdad, a world rarely represented in popular culture. In pursuit of this lofty goal, we have been given the freedom to choose the topics we want to address. We just had to make sure that what we wanted to describe existed in the world of Assassin’s Creed Mirage.”explains Raphaël Weyland, a historian working at Ubisoft Montreal.

For the development, various workshops were held with experts on the period of the Caliphate and it was internal and external historians, as well as images of artifacts from various museums, from drinking vessels and statues to scientific devices such as astrolabes.
