Average temperature on Earth reaches all-time high

On July 7, the average temperature on Earth reached a record high. This is evidenced by data from the University of Maine (USA), which uses satellite data and computer modeling to measure the planet’s condition.

This is the third record this week. So, on Monday, July 3, the average air temperature on the planet for the first time exceeded +17 degrees Celsius. It reached +17.18 degrees on Tuesday, July 4, and +17.23 degrees on Thursday, July 7th. For example, the weather last Thursday in China’s Jingxing county was extremely dangerous – the thermometer rose to 43.3 degrees Celsius.

Citing the 2021 study, Michael Mann, a climatologist at the University of Pennsylvania, points out that these are the hottest days in at least the last 120,000 years since the Ice Age.

At the same time, scientists point out that such a recording drum is a sign of a much more serious problem. The exact numbers are not as important as what causes them. We are talking about the so-called El Niño, which is a cyclic fluctuation in the temperature of the surface layer of water in the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean, which affects the global climate.

Overall, climatologists note that the oceans, which cover 70% of the world, have been experiencing record temperatures for several months. And a new El Niño is likely to occur in the second half of the year. This could lead to a devastating attack by the elements in different parts of the planet, they conclude.
