Microsoft is testing a more conversational Bing

Microsoft is very, very aware of the huge impact it made with Bing.. Even before its launch, last February, there were many indications that we were facing a proposal that was supposed to offer a huge change in the way we search for information on the Internet, even with its shortcomings. the truth is that those from Redmond managed to live up to expectations and create a service that left almost no one indifferent.
About half a year has passed since then (my goodness, how time flies, but that’s another story…), and in all that time Microsoft hasn’t stopped adding new features, increase limits, and generally improve Bing to make it more attractive to its users and to those who are not yet and intend to attract. This is further explained by the fact that its main rival, Bard, did not make its (almost) global debut until three months later, during Google I/O 2023. And it is still not the case today, it is still accessible from the European Union.
One of Bing’s main strengths, and something that sets it apart from other competitors such as ChatGPT, is that Microsoft’s search assistant always document the sources used to compile your answers. As we’ve noted on occasion, hallucinations in AI models are a big problem, and in those models where it’s impossible to know the source(s) used, the problem is even greater. Bing might accidentally pick the wrong source, but that’s something we can verify immediately, which is a huge safety net when evaluating your answers.
This is generally a positive, but there are times when it can be forced, especially for users coming from other services like ChatGPT. So as we can read in WindowsLatest, Microsoft is working on Bing’s conversational mode, ie.so that the system is able to identify those questions in which it is not necessary to cite sources, so that it is possible to answer without them.
This may seem like a mistake at first glance, but it is true that given the general purpose of Bing hThere are queries where resources are useless and irrelevantand it seems that in these cases there are users who prefer an experience more similar to that offered by ChatGPT, with no links and no related content. This means that Bing behaves more like an assistant than an information search engine, something that could find particular application in the ever-closer Windows 11 with Copilot, which, as you know, is based on Bing.
