The General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization extended the status of the International Research Organization and the International Preliminary Review Authority to the National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation of Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk announced this on Facebook.
“During the work of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, the status of the International Research Institute and the International Preliminary Review Agency was extended to include the IP Office of Ukraine,” said the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.
He stressed that this was an extremely important decision because “very few agencies in the world perform such functions.”
In addition, Stefanchuk explained that this status gives Ukrainian inventors and inventors simplified access to international services in the field of intellectual property to new ventures.
At the same time, according to the Head of the Verkhovna Rada, the status provides the above-mentioned persons with the opportunity to use the global system of patent cooperation when patenting the protection of their rights and their development abroad.
The Intellectual Property Office may also evaluate and examine international applications made by the member states of the PCT Treaty.
The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized that the Verkhovna Rada has done a lot to reform the field of intellectual property.
“This is, in particular, the Law on copyright and related rights adopted, aimed at strengthening the intellectual property rights of domestic and foreign users, in accordance with EU norms. And of course the creation of an IP office!” – summed up the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
As reported by Ukrinform, Verkhovna Rada President Ruslan Stefanchuk is on a working visit to the Republic of Latvia to discuss Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration with the Speakers of the Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian and Polish parliaments.
