Evernote is announcing a major layoff that affects nearly all of its employees and changes its headquarters: Moving to Europe No Comment

Evernote was the first notes app for many. Some have stopped using it and others still rely on it, but the situation within the developer far from ideal. With other alternatives on the table like Google Keep, Microsoft OneNote, Notion, and even the native iOS app, Evernote faces a huge challenge in retaining paying users and finding new ones.

“The company hasn’t been profitable for years and the situation was unsustainable in the long run,” said Bending Spoons, the new owner of Evernote, after it made 129 layoffs in February of this year. But the plan for the cut turned into a massive restructuring that included the layoff of nearly all of Evernote’s employees and the transfer of its headquarters.

According to an official blog post, Evernote has lost most of its employees. United States and Chile. Now ex-employees have been notified on July 5, and nearly all will receive 16 weeks’ pay, up to one year of health insurance and corresponding performance bonuses, according to Bending Spoons’ statement.

We do not know the exact number of employees affected by this decision, as the firm has not disclosed, but it has detailed what its next steps will be. “A dedicated (and growing) team based in Europe will continue to take ownership of Evernote,” says the notes app parent, headquartered in Milan, Italy, with 400 employees.

Now is the time to wait to find out if they will introduce changes or new functionality under their own umbrella.

It should be noted that this is not the first time Evernote has encountered such a scenario. In the past, it had massive layoffs in 2015 and 2018, long before it was sold to the Italian developer in question. It has also experienced turbulent times, including parts of its management leadership, such as executive director, financial director, and product director. He left the company.

Beyond the unique reality of each company, the technology sector exempt from mass layoffs. Amazon has laid off about 27,000 workers in the past two years. Microsoft, for its part, laid off 10,000 employees, and IBM nearly 8,000. But other companies like Apple see the cuts as a “last resort”.
