Google Messages, the default messaging app on Android phones, is designed to enhance everyday communication with the introduction of animated emojis. This new feature aims to add some life to text chats by complementing the standard emoji support. While there are some limitations to its use, the inclusion of animated emojis promises to make conversations more engaging.

Animated emojis in Google Messages were first spotted by Reddit user BruthaBeige and later shared in the Google Messages subreddit. Android expert Mishal Rahman was also briefed about this visual addition, and another user confirmed its existence. However, this feature appears to be region-restricted and is not currently available to all users.

Currently the animation feature works when a single emoji is sent. Sending multiple emojis or combining text with emojis will not activate the animation. Despite this limitation, the wide range of emoji available on user keyboards can be animated, allowing for more expression in text messages.

While some details such as compatibility rating and specific release plans are not known, Google is expected to provide more information about the animated emojis when they become available to all Google Messages users. Specifically, recent updates to the app include a new icon for RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats and an improved direct reply feature for Messages web users.
