Twitter has seen a drop in traffic since Threads launched

Instagram head Adam Mosseri positions Threads, which was introduced on July 6, as follows: a more positive social platformIt hasn’t fully embraced Twitter, covering the interests of users and communities.

Threads’ user base is growing rapidly, reaching 50 million a day after launch and surpassing 100 million in 5 days, making the social network the fastest growing product.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post Monday that he was surprised by the organic demand for Threads. He stated:

Topics hit 100 million subscribers over the weekend. Mostly organic demand and we haven’t even launched many promotions yet. I can’t believe it’s only been 5 days!

Twitter traffic drops

On Sunday, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince shared a screenshot on Twitter showing the platform traffic dropping.

The web analytics specialist reported that Twitter’s web traffic fell 5% from the previous week in the first two full days of Threads launch. It also experienced a decrease of 11% compared to the same days of 2022.

Competition is good

Twitter, once the dominant microblogging platform, is now facing increasing competition with the arrival of Threads. The decline in user traffic since Threads’ launch underscores the growing appeal of alternative platforms and Twitter’s need to innovate and maintain its user base.

It is not yet known how Twitter will respond to this challenge and whether it will regain the attention of users who have switched to Threads. As the social media landscape continues to evolve, competition between platforms is likely to intensify, forcing companies to continually adapt and deliver unique experiences to attract and retain users.
