Two years after the launch of Windows 365, a PC running Windows 11 in the cloud, Microsoft is reportedly working on a cheaper variant.
With the launch of Windows 365 in 2021, Microsoft offered businesses a new way to use Windows. Such a cloud PC is a persistent digital computer in Microsoft’s cloud Azure associated with a single user. An employee always works in the same environment with his settings, his applications and his files. This environment can be accessed from anywhere: Microsoft not only supports laptops, but also Android and iOS.
According to WindowsLatest, Microsoft is now reviewing a cheaper consumer (and small business) version of Windows 365. Organization pricing starts today at €18.20 per month for a system with 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 64 GB storage.
It’s currently unclear how deep Microsoft intends to go to encourage consumers to move to the cloud. Internal discussions focus on a price between 10 and 20 dollars, the equivalent of between 11 and 22 euros including VAT.
Windows 365 has evolved over the past two years and today supports Windows 11. In addition to the standard Business and Enterprise formulas, you can also purchase Windows 365 as a frontline cloud license. With this formula, Microsoft targets organizations in which many employees work in shifts. They work on the same device at different times, eliminating the need for multiple licenses.
