The Amazon Appstore is the official gateway to run Android apps on Windows 11. Developers can now get started with the latest tools to bring their Android apps to Windows 11.

The addition of Android apps was one of the most significant changes in Windows 11, although again we had to wait for the availability of the Windows 11 2022 update. The service App Store is the responsibility of Amazon. On his developer page he now announces that the development environment is basically available to every developer.

Microsoft delivers the experience through the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), with the original idea of bringing Android apps to the desktop environment. Today, Microsoft rolled out the Android environment in 31 countries, including Belgium. The Netherlands will have to wait for the time being before the WSA can start.

Amazon directs developers to many important resources, including the FAQ and GitHub. Developers should be aware of the high minimum system requirements for Android apps. PCs must have at least 8 GB of RAM and WSA installed to use the Amazon Appstore in the Windows Store.

Now that developers can get started with all the tools, it won’t be long before WSA and the Amazon Appstore are made available to the general public. Everything is still in public preview today. Users can currently choose from 20,000 Android apps.
