The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will launch a lunar landing module using an H2A launch vehicle in August.

This was reported by NHK, Ukrinform reports.

Project SLIM (Intelligent Lunar Reconnaissance Vehicle) will be Japan’s first attempt to land a module on the moon. It will test precision landing technology and will also conduct research on Moon rocks.

If successful, Japan will be the fourth country to land a module on the moon.

Data from this module will be used in the US-led Artemis program, which plans to send astronauts to the Moon for research.

The H2A launch vehicle is scheduled to launch from the Tanegashima space center in southwest Japan on August 26.

The rocket will also carry RISM, the new X-ray astronomy satellite developed by NASA in collaboration with other parties.

As Ukrinform reported, on July 12, China successfully launched the world’s first launch vehicle using methane as fuel.
