With the Honor Magic V2, Honor confirms that its commitment to foldable smartphones is very, very serious. We already saw this at the end of last year, when the Honor Magic Vs were presented, which we knew from the first moment would arrive in Europe, which happened shortly after, in February of this year. And precisely that its technical specifications, together with a very competitive price on the market, from the first moment formed a statement of intent that pointed to the top of the table.

Well, when not even a year has passed since the debut of the manufacturer on the folding market, today he again left a very good taste in our mouths with his presentationfor the time being for the Chinese market, although we hope to make the jump to the international scene with the plans, the Honor Magic V2, a phone that, based on its specifications and features, is at the Olympus of this growing market segment.

As you will see when checking its technical specifications, we are talking about a phone that it would shine with its own light even if it wasn’t collapsible, which is the feeling the manufacturer says we’ll get when we use it without unfolding, which has been one of the main weaknesses of foldable phones for some time. So, at least in the first place, it seems that we are facing the most solvent proposal in terms of offering two devices in one.

The specs speak for themselves and make it clear what was hinted at in the beginning, that Honor decided to jump into the pool in the area it covers the most, and given the specs it seems obvious that the jump couldn’t have been made with more precision and success. Something that is obviously positive for the brand, but that it also represents a new and valuable impulse for this marketof foldable smartphones, which continues to grow slowly but steadily.

An aspect that may go unnoticed in the first place, but which is very important, is found in its thickness when folded, and that we are facing the first phone of this type that when folded, it is less than one centimeter thick. This undoubtedly plays a key role when we want to use it as a normal phone, i.e. without taking it apart. This will undoubtedly make a big difference in the day-to-day use of the Honor Magic V2.

Since we are talking about a foldable smartphone, it is best to start with its two screens and thus verify that although the foldable one is logically the main protagonist, Honor has not forgotten the exterior at all, which brings us back to the folded user experience. So we find the panel 6.3-inch LTPO OLED with a resolution of 1060 x 2376 pixels in an aspect ratio of 20:9 and with a significant density of 402 points per inch. It is capable of scaling up to 120 Hz with an impressive 3,840 Hz DC dimming. Its maximum brightness can reach 2,500 nits, it is compatible with HDR10+ and represents 100% of the DCI-P3 color space.

As for the folding screen, we repeat with the panel OLED LTPO, this 7.92 inch with a resolution of 2156 x 2344 pixels in an aspect ratio of 9.78:9 and with a density similar to that of an external screen, i.e. 402 points per inch. It also shares 120Hz and 3840Hz DC Dimming, as well as HDR10+ compatibility. Its maximum brightness is 1600 nits and it has IMAX Enhanced certification for content playback, which guarantees a great experience.

Once inside, we see that for the Honor Magic V2, its manufacturer has opted for the latest version of the top line from Qualcomm, that is SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a chip that integrates an octa-core CPU (one Cortex-X3 at 3.2 GHz, two Cortex-A715 at 2.8 GHz, two Cortex-A710 at 2.8 GHz and three Cortex-A510 at 2.0 GHz) along with Adreno 740 GPU, Snapdragon X70 5G modem and Hexagon processor for artificial intelligence. It is accompanied by nothing less than 16 gigabytes of RAM and when it comes to storage, the standard versions are offered with 256 and 512 gigabyteswhile the Ultimate version jumps up to a terabyte. For a moment it almost looks like we’re talking about PC specs, but no, we’re still talking about a smartphone.

In terms of connectivity, it will offer Honor Magic V2 Physical 5G dual-SIMwith two slots for nanoSIM (unlike other smartphones that are also dual but combine nanoSIM with digital eSIM) to which we have to add Wi-Fi 6e with Wi-Fi Direct support, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and global positioning. On the physical level, it only has a USB 3.1 Gen1 Type C port for data, connecting headphones and charging the battery.

However, in this case it would be more appropriate to talk about batteries, since the charge accumulation is divided between two batteries of asymmetrical size, which put together 5,000 milliamps with 66W fast charging. And at this point it is important to mention that unlike other high-end manufacturers, Honor supplies the phone with a fast chargerand also the necessary cable to enjoy this high charging speed from the first moment and without the need for another purchase.

Another interesting aspect of Honor Magic V2 batteries is that they are not lithium ions as we are used to seeing, but silicon carbona technology that Honor introduced at the beginning of the year at MWC 2023, which aims to offer greater energy density (that is, it can store more energy than a lithium-ion battery in the same size). as a relatively low rate of degradation, which promises to extend the life of this smartphone.

The first look at its exterior, more precisely at its main camera, confirms that Honor did not want to leave the photography section in the background. So we find tthree elements, all in high definition. The main role is played by a wide-angle shot of 50 megapixels with a number of f/1.9, an ultra-wide-angle also of 50 megapixels with a number of f/2.0 and a telephoto lens with a magnification level of 2.5x, 20 megapixels and a number of f/2.4. With these elements, it is able to take pictures with a resolution of 8,192 × 6,144 pixels and record video with a resolution of 4K (3,840 × 2,160 pixels). The front cameras (it has one on each of the screens) share characteristics, with a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 number.

Hinge detail.

The only bad thing about this Honor Magic V2 is that its availability is limited to China for now., where it is already available. However, there are signs that lead us to think that just like with Magic Vs, they will make the leap at some point and hopefully come to our country. In the meantime, to jump into it (because exchange prices are very interesting, although, as is the case in these cases, they will certainly increase when arriving in other countries due to tariffs), the configurations presented today and their prices:

  • Honor Magic V2 16 GB + 256 GB: 8,999 Chinese Yuan, €1,127.65 to the current change.
  • Honor Magic V2 16 GB + 512 GB: 9999 Chinese Yuan, €1,252.96 to the current change.
  • Honor Magic V2 Ultimate 16 GB + 1 TB: 11,999 Chinese Yuan, €1,503.58 to the current change.

As I said at the beginning, Honor has decided to go all out with this Magic V2, and if it finally makes it to international markets, as we hope, It has all the wicker products to become a new benchmark in the folding folding machine market..
