Avian virus can easily mutate and infect humans: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) said today that more and more outbreaks of avian influenza affecting mammals are being identified and that this raises serious concerns about the ability of the virus to adapt to easier to infect a person.

“In addition, some mammals can serve as vessels in which (different) influenza viruses can mix, resulting in new viruses it may be more harmful to animals and humans,” the UN Food and Agriculture Agency (FAO) and the World Organization for Animal Health said in a joint statement.

These organizations called on all countries to work together and across all sectors to protect human and animal populations.

First lineage H5N1 virus belonging bird flu it was identified in 1996 and has since caused several outbreaks in birds.

In 2020 option the virus has caused a significant number death of domestic and wild birds in Africa, Asia and Europe, and then spread to North America, Central America and South America.

In 2022, cases were reported in 67 countries on five continents, with 131 million poultry killedeither due to illness or because they had to be killed, which affected numerous communities dependent on this economic activity.

This year, fourteen other countries reported budsespecially in America.
