According to Apple, watchOS 10 will be the biggest update to the Apple Watch operating system. If watchOS 9 focused on running, new generation operating system bets on innovation for cycling and walking training. Cycling will offer labeling of new metrics with cadence, speed, and power information.

New to walking training includes 3D location features such as elevation view as well as providing information on where you can connect to make an emergency call. WatchOS does not support third-party app watch faces, which Apple may change in the future, but new features will be available through compatible Bluetooth devices.

Apple WatchOS 10: What’s new for walking and cycling

Expected that WatchOS 10 will be released in September 2023., and Apple has already released a list of smartwatches with support for the new OS. For cyclists, the updated operating system will automatically connect to compatible accessories via Bluetooth and add cadence, speed, and power information to the Exercise app (Workout view).

In addition, the new display model allows the user to evaluate the functional threshold power (The highest intensity level a cyclist can maintain for an hour). The resource is very interesting for anyone who is thinking about preparing for a competition or wants to improve their time. WatchOS 10 also provides the user with the ability to analyze power zones to track time in specific areas of a route and explore ways to improve performance.

When learning to walk WatchOS 10 will bring new views to Apple Watch Ultra owners in the Compasso app. With the new OS, it will be possible to get a 3D view of the location using Elevation View. It will also be possible to find connection points and determine which places allow the user to connect and make emergency calls. Another interesting detail is that WatchOS 10 offers users (only in the US so far) information about trails, including name, duration, difficulty, height, and length. Thus, it is easier to choose a place for a walk and follow the results.
